About Us: Pillars of Pettis County

Discover the Heart of Our Mission

Building Stability.  Restoring Dignity.  Empowering Independence.

About Us

At Pillars of Pettis County, we believe that a safe, stable home is the foundation upon which every other life goal is built. We aren’t just providing a roof; we are providing a roadmap to self-sufficiency for individuals and families in our community.

Our Mission

To work alongside families and individuals to develop goal-focused plans that lead to stable housing. Through mentoring and collaboration with community agencies, we empower our clients to reach their personal goals and achieve long-term independence.

Our Vision

To ensure every individual and family in Pettis County has access to a safe and stable place to live, supported by the tools and community resources needed to maintain self-sufficiency.

The Values That Guide Us

Our work is rooted in four core pillars that define how we interact with our neighbors and our partners:

  • Compassion and Empathy: We lead with our hearts, recognizing the unique challenges and barriers our families face.

  • Dignity and Respect: We believe every person deserves to be seen, heard, and treated with honor, regardless of their circumstances.

  • Accountability: We hold ourselves and our participants to high standards, ensuring every step taken moves us toward a stable future.

  • Self-Determination: We empower individuals to set their own goals and take the lead in their own success stories.

Who We Are

Pillars of Pettis County is a registered 501(c )(3) charitable organization and a Missouri non-profit. We are currently an all-volunteer organization governed by a dedicated Board of Directors composed of local leaders and representatives from various community organizations.

We operate through a unique collaborative model. We work closely with Mercy Services United for family assessments and are supported by a grant from the ToRCH program, as well as foundation donations and rental contributions from the families we serve.

Our Goal-Focused Approach

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Our program is designed for those who are ready to work toward a better future.

  • Partnership: Families agree to work with a program volunteer and attend educational classes.

  • Responsibility: Participants contribute to the cost of their housing and utilities, building the habits of financial independence.

  • Support: We assist families in identifying community resources and help cover past-due utilities to clear the path forward.

  • Reliability: We pay landlords on time and directly, ensuring a stable relationship for both the property owner and the tenant.

The Road Ahead

While we are currently supporting families in individual homes, our vision is growing. We have officially signed an agreement to manage an apartment complex beginning in early 2027, enabling us to serve significantly more families.

As we expand, our priority is securing more moderately priced rental properties and hiring our first staff member to deepen our support for families, landlords, and social service agencies.
